Gardening chair/trolley

Gardening chair trolleyThis client wished to continue gardening after a stroke but needed to do this from a chair. A wheelchair was not suitable over the soft lawn, earth etc.

A seat was mounted on a three-wheel trolley and provided with walking stick height handle to allow the client to push the trolley into the required position. Two sturdy arms allow him to transfer himself into the chair, after which the arm is raised to allow him to garden from that side. A ‘quiver’ and hooks are provided for tools. A larger jockey wheel has satellite wheels either side of slightly smaller diameter, on a firm surface the centre wheel casters freely; on softer surfaces the satellite wheels provided extra support and in practice still allow full castering action.

The client was very satisfied.

Garden lounger modification

The client is unable to bend and can spend only brief periods standing. She wanted to be able to move a deck-lounger into a sunny position.

The solution was to use an ‘overcentre lift’ akin to those used for lifting F1 racing cars.

The client now has a lounger that she is able to move herself rather than rely on a helper.
