Bed Controller Modification
To provide the client with a way to control his adjustable bed without damaging the existing handset controller with his teeth.
The Challenge
The client is mostly paralysed from the neck down except that he can move one arm but has minimal grip. He spends a lot of time in his bed which has controls to tilt the head and lower part of the mattress. The only way he could press the buttons on the hand held bed controller was to bite the buttons with his teeth, which was causing the buttons to be damaged.
The solution
The carers were able to provide a replacement hand controller which was modified. A second controller was made with 4 easy to press buttons and wired into the replacement controller.
The benefit
The client can now control his bed more easily with his teeth and without damaging the controller.
