Bespoke Cutlery
The client has limited use of his left hand due to a stroke. His physiotherapist had made an adaption to his fork so he could stabilise food for cutting with his unaffected right hand. However, the adaption wasn’t quite fit for purpose so he contacted Remap to see if something more suitable could be made.
The solution
A steel tube was attached to the fork to hold the client’s forefinger, this enabled him to use the fork to stabilise food for cutting with his unaffected right hand.
Two forks were adapted in this way using the client’s own forks and earlobe piercing tunnel stretching tubes which were attached using spare fork tines and welded on.
The benefit
The client is able to control his food enough to eat independently. The fork is machine washable, looks elegant and is one from his own set of cutlery.

A bit more info, the parts were welded together using a PUK pulse TIG welder normally used for jewellery, the tubes are available on eBay in various sizes and are surgical stainless steel, two were welded together to extend the length, I used the tines from a donor fork for the legs that hold the tubes in position.
