Cup holder for bed
This client has motor neurone disease. Her husband is her carer at night and she has to wake him if she needs a drink. As she can barely speak and he sleeps heavily, this is not easy for her.
A part ring, in which a cup fits, was mounted on the end of an extendable aluminium arm. The arm was mounted in a steel screw clamp, which goes over the side rail of the bed. The arm can be adjusted for length and height and locked in position so that she can reach a straw placed in the cup, with a minimum of movement.
The client is now able to take a drink unaided during the night. The clamp can be unscrewed and the cup holder taken with the client to the hospice when she goes there for respite care.
