Customised gait trainers
Three children, who attend a special needs school, required special adaptations to the school’s “Gait Trainers”, used to help the children walk, that the available units were unable to satisfy.
Adapting the existing units was considered impractical. So two fully adjustable small and one large unit utilising redundant bed head frames were made.
Two of the children, who were small and thin, required specially shaped body clamps to give maximum support and restraint. One suffered violent spasms and required extra strong sewn webbing straps. Ankle restraints were also required. The third was for a teenager who required the extra adjustments for height and size.
The benefits are yet to become apparent as it takes considerable time for the therapy to get results. However the staff are sure that much better progress will result from using these units.
