The client, a young girl, has no fingers on her right hand but wished to be able to ride a two-wheeled pedal cycle.

The existing rear brake and lever were discarded and the brake lever control for the bicycle’s front brake was moved from the right to the left. The existing 5-speed Deraillier equipped rear wheel was replaced with one fitted with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub and its twist-grip control was also mounted on the left handlebar. Rear wheel braking is provided by a coaster brake incorporated into the Sturmey Archer hub and is operated by back pedaling.

The client can now ride her bicycle in complete safety and can operate gears and brakes without needing to remove her hand from the handlebars.
