Flashing light awareness stimulator
The client uses an electric wheelchair but keeps hitting door posts as she has Left Side Neglect; this is a neurological issue, although her vision is intact.
The solution
Our solution was to provide a light on a swan neck – obtained from a local tool store – attached to the left side of her wheelchair. A small, battery powered, electronic unit feeds the light with pseudo-random pulsed output with a roughly five second repetition rate.
The benefit
The client is now able to drive around her house without banging into doors, and they are going to examine whether the flashing light will enable her to use her computer more easily.
