GPS Tracker
The client is a power wheelchair user who wishes to go out on his own but is unable to grasp and use a mobile ‘phone to call his wife if he needs assistance.
The Challenge
The client is a power wheel chair user who is able to control the chair himself but unable to use his hands for much else. He wanted to go out in the chair on his own but was concerned that if he got into difficulties, he would have no way of contacting his wife. A GPS tracker had been purchased which would send a text message to a designated mobile ‘phone number which would show his position on a map on the ‘phone. However, the client was unable to press the button on the tracker.
The solution
A GPS tracker which sends a text message containing a link to an on-screen map showing the tracker’s location to a chosen mobile ‘phone number was obtained. The tracker was modified by connecting wiring to its emergency call button. A small push button box with a neck band was made so that the client can operate the button by moving his chin down.
The benefit
The client can now alert his wife while he is out on his own, if he needs help.
