Knee brace
The client wished to have a lightweight device to keep her leg straight when moving around the home so that she could walk with the aid of crutches rather than needing to use her wheelchair. She found a leg brace too heavy and other devices offered through the health service did not provide the required support.
A lightweight rigid brace was made using drainage pipe, split and hinged with nylon webbing, covered and padded to ensure comfort, and using Velcro straps to fasten easily.
The client can now move around her house and is longer confined to a wheelchair.
