There was a need to measure the lateral movement of clients with back problems. A metre stick was checked into a heavy teak wood block. A plastic slide made from cable trunking was topped by a flat platform. A flat spring tensioner was fitted inside the trunking. The client uses this by standing upright so the slide can be pushed up to touch the fingertips, and a reading is then taken. The client leans over and pushes the slide down as far as possible and another reading is taken. The gauge is transferred to the other side and the procedure repeated.

Accurate lateral measurement can now be recorded without causing discomfort/stress to the client.
