Leg exerciser with calf supports
The client is paralysed from the waist down and by being inert was not getting good blood circulation. The hospital unit suggested that a modified version of a motorised leg exerciser could be beneficial provided that it could give calf support.
One of these units was borrowed and tested with a boot provided by the Othortic department but proved too clumsy. The solution was to form “L” shaped supports from sheet nylon and retain the legs with “Velcro” straps.
Daily relaxing exercise on the machine resulted in good circulation and the absence of painful spasms.
