Model railway controller
The client is a 15 year old boy who is paralysed from the neck down. He has a model railway layout mounted on a large table. However, the trains were controlled by conventional model train controllers so he could only watch whilst members of his family operated the trains for him.
Two linked control systems that work with head operated switches were designed and constructed: one for controlling three separate trains, and one to control four sets of points. Indicator lamps show the status of the train on each track and the position of the points.
The client is now able to enjoy operating the model railway himself without assistance.
