One-Handed Knitting Aid
To enable the client to take up her knitting hobby again after suffering a stroke, which restricted the use of her left arm
The solution
Consists of a 3d-printed sprung clip (peg) mounted to a base plate via a section of ¾” Loc-line adjustable hose.
Knitting needles are easily clipped in and removed from peg with the use of one hand. It also includes a method of securing wool whilst casting on.
While testing the device it was found that bamboo needles worked best (less slippery surface). In addition, the use of Dycem non-slip mat held the device in place without the need of a clamp (this was also used to stop the needle slipping when resting on table).

Hi,
I am a Remap engineer in Gloucester I have a client who needs a one handed knitting aid, would it be possible to have a copy of Robs file for his excellent solution so that I can get it 3D printed for my client.
Thanks
Hi Rob I am a member of the Aberdeen Panel and we have had a request for a device similar to yours . I have a 3D printer and can draw up a clamp but if you had a STL file that would save me reinventing the wheel
Hello Rob,
We have had a request from a one handed lady in Billericay and your device looks great. We have a number of engineer’s who have 3D capability, one who also lives in Billericay, he uses Fusion 360. Please would you send me the stl file, not sure of the size, use We Transfer if large. Thanks

Hi, I am a member of the Berkshire panel. I have a client who has suffered a stroke and wishes to continue knitting. It would help me if I could get details of your needle clip. We have 3D printing capability. Regards Geoff
Thanks Rob
Hi Moira,
Sorry for the late reply, I lost all the manufacturing information I had to make the Knitting aid and have just got around to re-drawing it. Because it was made for one client through Remap (charitable organisation) you would need to make a request with your local Remap panel (can be found on the internet) to have one (or one like it) provided (It doesn’t cost anything) If you contacted your local Remap panel you would need to tell them that the details of the knitting aid can be obtained from the Kent panel. Sorry I can’t help more than that.
Kind regards
Rob
Hey Rob, are you able to share the file to get this clip 3D printed? My email is amy@amygoodchild.com
It’s for my mum who had a stroke and loves knitting. I’d happily send you some money or make a donation to a charity you choose. Thank you!
Hi Rob,
Is it possible to get details of the knitting aid? My friend cannot use her left hand now and really misses being able to knit.
Kind regards

Hi Joe,
Sorry but its not commercially available, it was just a one off made for a Remap client. I do have details of how it was made and materials used.
Kind regards
Rob
Can you send us the file to print the clamp for this one handed knitting stand.
Would it be possible to share the .stl file for the clip?

Hi Stephanie, this was designed for a Remap client who only had the use of one arm , so not sure if it will be of use to yourself. I am based in Kent and only work on projects in the local area. If you would like to find out if Remap can be of assistance I would be grateful if you can contact your local Remap panel. I am happy for you to mention this project and my my name and also happy to assist if required.
