After a stroke, the client, with reduced hand and arm strength on one side, wished to return to playing his viola.

The Challenge

After a stroke, the client, with reduced hand and arm strength on one side, wished to return to playing his viola.

The solution

The bow was modified with a molded plastic grip, held in place with a fold-back clip to make it easier to hold with his weakened hand. The free end of the bow is rested on the horizontal part of a microphone stand to make its weight easier to support.

The benefit

The client is now able to play the viola, although in an unconventional manner.
