Pulley and slider to aid bath access
The client is a wheelchair user and has a condition where his legs become very stiff and difficult to lift and move. This is a particular problem when attempting to move the client from his wheelchair to a bath seat.
A pulley block arrangement, giving a 2:1 mechanical advantage was made, with a sliding traverse mechanism mounted to the ceiling and a feature to enable the client’s legs to be held at the height needed to allow him to be rotated over the edge of the bath and into and out of the bath. The client’s carer can now easily lift his legs to enable transfer from the wheelchair to the bath seat.
