Reading teaching aid
A small boy, wheelchair user, with very limited movements and field of vision, required an aid to enable him to look at pictures and learn to read without an assistant holding the page in front of him.
A microphone stand was modified in a manner which permitted presentation of educational material to the boy whilst providing means of adjustment to critical distances and angles such that the pages were always held within the child’s range of vision. The device also incorporated a mirror to stimulate his awareness of other class activities.
The child is now becoming much more involved in class work and a classroom assistant is now free to attend to other duties.
