Rollator handle modifications
Our client was in the rehabilitation ward of a local hospital, and the standard palm rest on the rollator she was walking with was uncomfortable, and a twisted wrist/arm meant the angle of holding it was uncomfortable too. Remap were approached by one of the occupational therapists aligned to the ward to see if we could help.
The solution
Engineer Mike Johnson developed a temporary additional handle to bolt onto the rollator which was attached with a couple of 3D printed brackets and U bolts. A 3D printed spanner was also provided to allow a healthcare professional to adjust it to a height and angle which was just right.
Typically, it is necessary to consider single handed braking in cases like this – but in this particular situation, the healthcare professional is present to help the client and it wasn’t considered necessary.
The benefit
The client found this arrangement a lot more comfortable to use.
