Support chair
This severely disabled boy has hip and knee braces to enable him to attain an upright position. His special chair was too high and did not have a hinged footrest which was required.
A wooden footrest was fitted to a cross bearer on the chair with three hinges. Plywood quadrants were added to give more support and friction retention when in the upright position. An operating handle was made from plastic coated wire, with a wooden handle and this operated through a screw eye in the chair leg.
The boy’s legs are now supported on the footrest and he has the added benefit of operating it himself.
