Touch sensitive remote control
The lady in this case suffers from MS, Arthritis, and is on Oxygen due to respiratory problems.
She was unable to operate the press buttons on the electric bed remote and if, in the night, she needed to lift the head of the bed due to choking problems she had to wake her husband up to operate the bed.
The solution
The solution was to build a remote control with touch sensitive control. Because little information was available on the wiring of the bed remote another handset was purchased, and from this the relevant connections could be ascertained .
The touch sensitive modules were purchased from E-bay together with a bank of six 5v relays. The voltage for the bed controls was 24v DC so a voltage converter down to 5v was also needed as the touch units also worked on 5v. Neil constructed the unit and fitted it to a goose-neck which had a clamp on one end to fit to the bed frame. As can be seen from the picture, the unit could be placed in a position which made it easy for the lady to operate.
The benefit
The new touch sensitive control is life-changing, especially for the husband who can now sleep through the night without being woken. It has helped increase the client’s independence as she can now operate the bed herself.
The occupational therapist was very impressed and has asked for Kent Remap to present to her team.

I have a client who has MND who has trouble with bed controls and has to get partner up during the night. This may be a way to cure the problem and give more independence.
Could you please send me the details of the project and parts required. thanks

Hi, I have just got a job to change the remote for a lady who is no longer able to push the buttons on here remote. She has one of those adjustable armchairs. So I think your touch sensitive buttons arrangement would work for her. Please send me the urls for the bits and pieces you acquired for your job. I’ll see if I can convert them for mine. With thanks Sandy
