Unusual gate latch
A blind client needed a tall stair gate at the top of the stairs.It needed to swing both ways but be easily shut and opened
The solution
A commercial tall dog gate was used but a different latch was required.
Two steel rings were manufactured and are retained by a screws threaded into a steel plate with side plates welded on. The assembly is held together by a top plate retained by the screws. The back plate screws to the wooden support post. The steel rings are free to move vertically but are unable to swing out to the side
The benefit
The client and his wife are able to operate the latch easily and can just push the gate closed. it is retained open on the stairs by a magnet fixed to the handrail.
