The parts used
The client is particularly vulnerable to fractures to his ankles and so used to place his feet behind his wheelchair footrests to protect them from collision, which caused discomfort and pressure behind his knees.

The stainless steel tubular guard provides the necessary protection to give him the confidence to keep his feet on the footplates.  Quick-release clamps (used on boats for attaching canopies) allow the guard to be removed without tools when needed.

These bull bars were subsequently modified to fit the client’s new wheelchair.

I saw the write up about the bull bars, and as I have severe pain in my legs, getting my feet bashed was a real issue for me, especially because I am unable to bend one of my knees back fully. I contacted Remap and in no time at all, a lovely chap who’s name escapes me at the moment, came out to measure up my wheelchair in order to make a set of bull bars for it. They are easy to fit and detach and really do prevent my feet from getting knocked and my knees subsequently getting twisted, which used to be very painful. Now if people step in front of me, they are the ones who end up with the bruises, rather than me. Obviously I don’t advocate using it as a battering ram, but it gets the message across that jumping in the path of a wheelchair can end up causing injuries and painful problems when you don’t look where you are going. I am so pleased with the speed and care taken by those involved in this transformation. Thank you !
