Wheelchair to car transfer aid
The client needed a means of transferring between his car and wheelchair which were at different levels. A normal transfer board would not have been safe, especially as his driveway was not level.
The solution
A board (which was a piece of bathroom worktop) was cut to shape and a hinged bracket was attached to one end which plugged into the armrest mounting tubes on the wheelchair. On the other end a support was provided that rested on the car sill.
By positioning the wheelchair so that it supported the board in proximity to the car the client could transfer without having to stand.
The benefit
The client is now able to transfer to and from his car even on his steep driveway in safety.
