Channel hopping independence!
Marilyn spends a lot of time in bed because of her multiple sclerosis and is unable to operate the TV remote control. This means watching the same channel all the time, until a carer visits and can change the channel or make other adjustments.
Rex Beckett, a volunteer with Remap Bedfordshire made a Sip and Puff switch which connects to a control unit mounted on the bed. Marilyn was very pleased and is now able to turn her tv on/off and +/- the channel.
Rex used 3D printing for mechanical components and programmed a menu-driven electronics system for the controls. By using a combination of short and long sips or puffs the user can control any Infra-Red or Bluetooth controlled device.
