Footrest muscle-mover

Sally spends a lot of time sitting in her wheelchair as a result of her multiple sclerosis. She wanted to be able to exercise her legs and feet while sitting there and turned to Remap for help. Graham and Jackie Frise, volunteers with Remap Gwent, decided to design and build a simple pair of replacement footrests for her wheelchair. These allow her to use a seesaw motion with her feet which helps to tone leg and foot muscles and stimulates blood flow below the knees.

Sally is very pleased, and has found this to be a very useful form of exercise. Graham has also built a free standing exerciser that she can use while sitting in an ordinary chair, which provides the same form of movement for her legs and feet.
