Sitting comfortably
Sitting with a good posture, in a position that supports their core strength, is vital for small children to learn. The hearing impaired children at a special school for the deaf used to lean forward and swing their legs in order to sustain their balance and this was undermining their learning.
Occupational therapist Hannah Elliott was concerned, so spoke to Peter Hildrew a volunteer from Remap Portsmouth who then designed and made special footrests for their chairs.
The new adjustable foot rests have made a huge difference to the children’s concentration, listening and attention skills throughout the day therefore contributing to the development of their listening and language skills.
