A step in the right direction
Julie manages just fine at home in the kitchen with her prosthetic lower arms, but for some jobs she finds it easier to use her feet (from a sitting position). For this, she wanted a low, wheeled seat.
But Julie also uses a kick step to reach things high up in the cupboards. So Chris, a volunteer with Remap Berkshire, combined the two! He adapted a kick step with spring-loaded castors. A lever locks the castors in the down position when she wants a wheeled seat to glide around the kitchen and locks them in the up position, when she needs it to stay put. In this position Julie can move the step with her foot, but when she stands on it, it sinks down onto the floor for stability.
