The People Making Things Possible – Martyn
Martyn, an engineer from our Bristol panel, discusses what drew him to volunteering with REMAP and what he gets out of it.
I’ve developed a passion for engineering projects over the years and I don’t have many friends that enjoy the same sorts of things, so I tried to find an organisation that people like me gravitate towards and REMAP seemed pretty perfect.
I was down in Plymouth at the time and there was only a new group starting. I moved to Bristol and the Bristol REMAP branch is quite busy and quite large and very vibrant.
It’s great to meet every month and sit around the table and have a chat about designs and ideas and for me, it’s a social thing. I started it selfishly to find some friends, but it puts a smile on my face and you’ve got good people and they’re good fun. On the back of that, obviously I get to help people, which is an absolutely amazing bonus.
To anyone who would think about joining or volunteering with REMAP, I’d say come on down. We have a great evening once a month, discussing all sorts of different projects and if you’re engineering-minded or if you’re project-minded, we’ve got lots of different juicy projects to get your teeth stuck into.
