Moving Forward Campaign
At REMAP, our mission is to empower disabled people to live more independently. Our dedicated team of volunteers creates custom-made equipment and adaptations, tailored to your needs, free of charge. Through the Moving Forward Campaign, we aim to provide 2,000 wheelchair users with life-changing custom solutions over the next three years.
REMAP are thrilled to have been awarded £230,000 from the Motability Foundation. This generous funding comes from Motability’s new portfolio of grant programmes established to aid other charities that support the transport needs of disabled people. The grant will be allocated towards REMAP’s new initiative, the Moving Forward Campaign.

The Moving Forward Campaign will address the unique needs of wheelchair users. REMAP’s dedicated volunteers, including skilled engineers, technicians, and designers, will work closely with individuals to create tailor-made solutions to improve accessibility, independence, and quality of life.
The programme will offer invaluable assistance for wheelchair users, covering modifications to aid independent transportation. It supports adaptions aimed at giving you the freedom to get out and about, in situations where no commercial solutions are available.
Who we have helped so Far
Here are just a few of the hundreds of wheelchair users that we have helped so far thanks to the support of the Motability Foundation.

HelpinG BEth
Beth is a young girl diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a developmental disorder. She had received a new all-terrain wheelchair but wasn’t able to use it because her hands could touch the tyres, putting her at risk of injury.
Michael, Beth’s Stepdad, contacted REMAP as he’d seen on our website that we had helped someone with a similar issue. Our engineer, John, added wide padded armrests to the wheelchair which keep Beth both safe and comfortable. Beth and her family are now able to visit different parks and gardens, and fully enjoy the sounds and smells of nature.
“John came up with a great adaptation to our daughter’s wheelchair that has allowed her to use it without getting her hands trapped in the wheels. Excellent experience and decent caring people.” – Michael, Beth’s Stepdad
Giving Hazel her Independence
Hazel is a client with a long history of using REMAP’s services. Around 10 years ago, our engineers created a bespoke cutlery holder which allowed her to eat independently. She recently approached us again as her condition, resulting from polio, had worsened to the extent that she could no longer walk independently and so needed to use an electric wheelchair. However, limitations in her arm movements meant that she couldn’t reach the joystick in its standard position.
REMAP engineers were able to adapt the wheelchair, adding a moveable sidearm which the joystick was attached to. This meant Hazel could reach and use the controller, without impacting the functionality of the wheelchair, which could still be folded when needed. Once again, REMAP had helped Hazel remain independent and able to do the things she enjoys like taking trips and visiting nature reserves.
“REMAP is such a fantastic organisation! I have nothing but praise for this amazing charity.” – Hazel
