Celebrating Trustees’ Week with Stuart Wheeler

As part of Trustees’ Week, we’re shining a light on the incredible people who guide and support our organisation behind the scenes. In this special feature, Stuart Wheeler shares his personal journey of being a dedicated Trustee since 2021.

After years of supporting various charities, I found myself looking for a new focus. I had heard of the amazing work REMAP was doing, and when I was offered the chance to become a Trustee, I was immediately interested. Reading the previous year’s annual report, particularly the inspiring case study stories, convinced me completely. I knew I wanted to offer my time to support their incredible mission.

I was drawn to REMAP’s unique mission—the way their volunteer engineers and craftspeople use their skills to custom-design and build equipment for disabled people that simply isn’t available commercially. The concept of harnessing ingenuity and practical skills to solve individual, often deeply personal, mobility or independence challenges struck a chord with me.

I contribute in several ways, attending quarterly trustee meetings to help make balanced, informed, long-term decisions that secure the charity’s future and allow it to help more beneficiaries. Additionally, I have helped promote REMAP by sharing the great work to audiences in community coffee mornings.

The satisfaction of helping REMAP and witnessing the direct, positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries makes this an incredibly rewarding commitment.
