Introducing our CEO, Andi Maratos

We are delighted to welcome Andi Maratos as our CEO. Andi has kindly answered some questions, sharing more about her background, motivations, and vision for REMAP.

Please introduce yourself and share a little about who you are outside of work.

I live in Southampton with my family and cats; the cats are great company in my home office, although they do sometimes like to get in on meetings. I enjoy running and am a firm believer in the power of the Couch to 5K app to turn someone into a runner. I’ve never managed more than 10K though and am in awe of our supporters Fiona and Matt who are taking part in the London Marathon this week!

Medieval historical re-enactment and great friends give me plenty of reasons to travel around the country. I find a long drive goes better with a good audio book and something good to look forward to at the other end.

Since my earliest days, I’ve held a passionate belief in equity and empowering people to live their best lives.

What drew you to join REMAP, and what stood out to you about its mission?

REMAP’s mission is to improve the quality of life for disabled people through bespoke engineering solutions, and the charity is unique in sitting at the intersection of three areas – disability, STEM, and health.

When looking at the clients’ stories and the engineers’ solutions, I was struck by the joy inherent in being able to do something for the first time or to recover a lost skill and experience the health benefits of participating more fully in life, matched by the joy of developing a unique solution to someone’s need through the application of your skills, knowledge, and experience.

What experience do you bring that you think will be especially valuable at REMAP?

From my early career in engineering, through my work making student accommodation more accessible, to leading mental and physical health charities, this role at REMAP seemed created for me. A unique opportunity to use all my skills and experience for the growth and development of our charity, adapting to the demands of our changing society to meet the unique needs of more disabled people, transforming lives and giving everyone the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

My academic background is in cybernetics and control engineering, alongside counselling and psychotherapy. Together, these have shaped how I approach complex challenges: understanding the whole system, identifying where change will have the greatest impact, and designing solutions that respond to real human need. I try to balance the practical with the empathic, keeping the individual at the centre while strengthening the organisation around them.

Where do you see REMAP growing or evolving over the next few years, and what excites you most about the journey ahead?

Over the next few years, I see us growing to support more people in innovative ways. Working together to take advantage of the changing social landscape and tools available to us. I see us with a clear, shared vision of success which centres our impact on transforming the lives of our clients.

I also envisage better links with industry and education and REMAP leading innovation, pushing the frontiers of what disabled people can achieve when technology enables them to overcome barriers.

I am most excited about bringing REMAP to a wider audience. Highlighting our life-changing work and incredible innovations and putting REMAP on the national stage.
