Michelle’s Step Up for Horse Riding!

How a custom mounting block has given Michelle, a disabled horse rider, more independence.

Michelle is an avid horse rider. She is also a wheelchair user and has various conditions, including no feeling in her right leg which means she is unable to lift it. As a result, she was finding it incredibly challenging to mount her horse safely and needed two people to assist her to get on.

Michelle contacted REMAP to ask if we could design a taller and wider mounting block, complete with a handle for added stability.

In response, Ashley from our Essex North branch created a custom wooden horse mounting block, designed specifically to meet Michelle’s needs. The block is transportable and features steps and bannisters for safety.

Michelle says:

“My mounting block has made a massive difference and is really enabling me to get on and off my horse. I can’t thank Ashley enough. The horse mounting block has been made extremely well and is perfect for myself and my horse.

“Before I had the mounting block, getting on my horse was very difficult. I needed two people to help me get on. I only need one now — it’s brilliant. I can’t thank this amazing team enough. It’s given me more independence.”

We’re thrilled that this project has given Michelle greater freedom and made her riding routine much more manageable.
