Mya’s New waterskiing handle

Mya, a teenage water-skier with a limb difference, explains how our volunteer engineer Tom has made a difference by adapting another waterskiing handle just for her.

Tom Niebel from REMAP worked really hard to create something that would work for me, and this season it has really given me the opportunity to progress in my slalom. Before I had the handle, slalom skiing was much more difficult, but having something designed specifically for me has helped me improve my technique and build my confidence on the water. It gives me much better control and allows me to focus on skiing.

Since getting the handle, I’ve been able to keep progressing and challenge myself even more. Waterskiing is something I really love, and having equipment that works for me has made it possible for me to continue developing my skills and enjoying the sport.

Tom from REMAP put in a huge amount of time and effort, working with me on the design and coming up with his own ideas on how to make it even better. It’s always hard when something like this is made, because you don’t really know if it’s going to work properly until I get out on the water and try it in real conditions, but once I did, it made a big difference.

I’m really grateful to Tom and everyone at REMAP. The handle might seem like a small thing, but it has had a huge impact on my waterskiing and has helped me achieve things I didn’t think would be possible.

Thank you, REMAP, for helping me keep doing what I love!
