Shay’s Custom Wheelchair

Charley explains how REMAP have supported her young son, Shay, and given him some independence.

Shay was a 28-weeker identical twin born in emergency C-section due to twin-to-twin transfusion and heart failure. He was vented at birth.

Due to the issues in pregnancy, he suffered grade 2-3 brain damage called cystic periventricular leukomalacia which resulted in cerebral palsy.

Our physio is certain we will get him walking but to relieve some frustration and give him some independence, she referred us to you for a Bumbo wheelchair.

Nigel the engineer came on Sunday morning and delivered it after contacting me late last week. He told me all about his background in the navy and working for Severn Trent Water and I actually cried to know that all your engineers are volunteers who have used their expertise to change people’s lives – so heartwarming.
