Team REMAP at the London Marathon: Fiona & Matt Cross the Finish Line!

What an incredible journey it’s been! Fiona and Matt have officially completed the London Marathon, and we couldn’t be prouder of their outstanding effort. After months of training, fundraising, and pushing through every mile, they’ve crossed the finish line — and they did it for REMAP!

Meet Fiona

Fiona Egan, a mum of two from the Scottish Borders, began running in 2022. As an Occupational Therapist who has referred clients to REMAP, she knows the impact we have.

“Running the London Marathon for REMAP has been an experience of a lifetime. It felt especially meaningful to represent a charity I’ve worked with and seen first-hand the incredible difference they make and everything about it felt genuinely aligned.

As a first-time marathon runner, it really pushed me to the limits of what I thought was possible. The months of training paid off, and I had the best day from start to finish. Seeing my kids there cheering me on with their signs, taking in the atmosphere and watching me run, is something I know we’ll all remember and I hope inspires them to aim big in life too.

Crossing the finish line was an emotional moment. I honestly couldn’t have done it without the support of REMAP, my fellow runner Matt, and my coach Sarah”.

Meet Matt

Matt French, a Marketing Officer from Milton Keynes, has worked in the charity sector for 15+ years. Matt also has a close association with REMAP, having previously volunteered with our Milton Keynes branch.

“Taking part in the iconic London Marathon always seemed like an unachievable dream, but when the opportunity to run for REMAP arose I jumped at the chance, and what a journey it’s been. Having volunteered with the charity in the past I knew first-hand the difference my fundraising would make, and felt continuously motivated throughout my training, knowing that every step, and every tough winter run I faced, was all for such a great cause.

This was my first marathon, so there were plenty of worries, nerves and trepidation along the way but, with thanks to the ongoing support we received from REMAP, we arrived at the start line prepared for what was to come. And what a day it was! The atmosphere, the amazing volunteers and the crowds are second to none and really help you along way. Random strangers shouting “Go Matt” when you are at 25 miles and struggling give you such a boost, and then you are on the Mall, a moment you have dreamt about, seen on the TV many a time, and here you are, doing it yourself. It is the most special thing and a moment in my life I will remember forever.

I was so incredibly honoured to run for REMAP, to wear the vest and to raise such a significant amount of money for this brilliant charity. Taking on a challenge like this for something so close to my heart was very rewarding and I would highly recommend REMAP to anyone looking to achieve the marathon dream themselves.”

Two of our Trustees were at the finish line to celebrate Fiona and Matt’s achievement, including our Chair of Trustees, Peter Cattermole. He said:

“It was not only inspiring to see Fiona and Matt succeed in their first ever marathons, but it was amazing to experience the enormity of the London Marathon – the organisation, the people, the runners, the supporters, and the rest.  With so much going on in the world that we have to worry about it was truly uplifting to see so many people from so many backgrounds come together for a single, unifying (peaceful) reason.”
