Treasurer / Finance Officer

We have over 65 local branches, across the UK which help people with a disability live more independently. Our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

As the Finance/Treasurer volunteer for the Brighton and Sussex branch, you’ll make sure your branch gets the most for its money. You’ll maintain income and expenditure records to document and report on branch finances. You’ll manage their accounts and make financial information easy to understand.

This role will involve a workload of approximately 1-2 hours per week, primarily working from home with occasional attendance at meetings held in Brighton. It will require access to a PC with Word and Excel.

WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES:

The duties associated to this role may vary but are likely to include:

  • Book-keeping duties together with Year end reports to REMAP UK
  • Financial duties and responsibilities to comply with all legislation and REMAP policies & procedures
  • Processing Gift Aid to maximise income
  • Completing grant applications and funding bids
  • Supporting the branch’s shared responsibility for designing and delivering to clients in line with our principles of quality service so that they are safe.
  • Additional admin and fund raising tasks are available for a willing volunteer.  

We can support you in developing the skills you need for this role, including induction into all the areas outlined. You will have a chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

You do not need to be a professional accountant, but do need to be interested in and enthused by the aims and functions of the local REMAP Group of 10-20 volunteer engineers making bespoke items for the disabled.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS ROLE:

Essential
• Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email.
• Familiar with bookkeeping, budgeting, and planning income and expenditure.
• Familiarity with relevant financial software.
• Able to keep people’s personal data safe.


Desirable
• Committed to our values.
• Able to explain financial information to other group members in ways that are easily understood.
• Stay up to date with external and internal policies and procedures.
• Willing to develop skills and experience.

Our Engineer/Maker Volunteers are the essence of our local branch activities. They use their practical skills and ingenuity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives.

What the role involves

This role may vary depending on local needs, but is likely to include the following:
• Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs.
• Using your practical skills working with one or more of: Metal, wood, plastic, or electronics.
• Attending a monthly meeting of the local branch.

• Practical experience in working with one of the above materials.
• Able to listen well, to understand someone’s needs.
