BED RAIL GAP PROTECTION
A fabric sleeve to prevent limbs going though the gaps in a bed grab rail, during transfer.
The Challenge
The requirement was to prevent our client trapping limbs in the gaps in the grab rail during transfer. His OT had seen a solution on the REMAP website by our Oxford group and asked if we could make a similar addition to the rail below.

The solution
We made a close-fitting sleeve which needs stretching over the handle and held tight by means of Velcro at the top end. This differs slightly from the Oxford group project as our grab handle is a different design and has no horizontal tube but does have a 3rd vertical tube.
The tension produced in the stretchy jersey material plus the additional tension when the Velcro is closed at the top is sufficient to hold the material in place with no movement up or down. Should it prove necessary to further secure the cover, we can add Velcro onto the tubing.

The benefit
Our client and his daughter were very pleased with this solution.
