Bedside step
The client, Mason, is a double bilateral amputee and needs a step to assist him getting in and out of bed.
The Challenge
Mason would like to have a degree of independence and be able to put himself to bed and get out of bed safely.
The solution
The step was made from four pieces of 20mm thick white-faced chipboard to form the sides of a box 600mm long x 450mm wide x 200mm high. The top was made from 9mm plywood and the five parts were joined with pins and glue. To give a degree of comfort the top was covered with a bathroom mat fastened to the step ends with Velcro.
The benefit
Mason’s is being helped to develop a sense of independence and self-reliance.
