Perching stool foot rail

An additional footrail on a Medequip issued shower/perching stool to make it more comfortable.

The Challenge

Our client has a very narrow kitchen and wanted to be seated for food prep.  Her OT had issued her with what is actually a standard issue shower stool to get the right sort of height in a very compact and lightweight footprint so it can be stored out of the way.   This worked well but our client was just missing a foot rest for additional comfort.

The solution

Engineer Jon Parlby created a simple L cross section painted timber footrest (actually a surplus corner post from a kitchen installation!), and made use of the adjustment holes already on the stool, so the modification can be removed if necessary.  As our client tends not to wear shoes around the house, dense EVA camping mat foam provides a firm yet comfortable layer on top. EVA is a closed cell foam which doesn’t absorb moisture and can be wiped down as necessary.

The benefit

Our client can now cook in comfort.
