Steps for young boy’s bunkbed
We were asked to replace a ladder to a gaming bunkbed with some sturdy steps. The young boy’s coordination is affected and we needed to add a handrail to the steps without making the steps too heavy or big from the room.
The Challenge
The client wanted to climb up to his new bunkbed which sits above a gaming table. The ladder which came with the bunkbed was not suitable as the client has poor coordination and stability. The space the steps needed to take up was small so a commercial option was not available. We needed to make the steps with a grab rail and they needed to be as light as possible without moving when used. The client also had a desire for the steps to be grey and gaming themed.
The solution
Steps weren’t commercially available due to the space constraint. I designed the steps in CAD and an amazing carpenter on our panel, called David Mathews, built them. I then painted them and added Fortnite 3D prints to the outside to make it 15-yo-boy appropriate.
The benefit
The young boy was very happy with the steps and so was his mum. He was also very excited about the Fortnite 3D prints.
