Katie’s Transfer Board is Still Making a Difference Six Years On!

Katie kindly shares her experience of being supported by remap six years ago, when she received a bespoke transfer board that is still essential to her today.

When I first broke my neck aged 22 and became a c7 level tetraplegic, paralysed from below the arms I had no idea that services like yours existed, or that I myself would need them.

But I did, and you were there, coming into my rehab facility to help design a transfer board that I could take home with me, that would continue to allow me to live independently. And it has.

The transfer board two of your engineers put together was lovingly designed to be strong, lightweight and durable with unique handles that set it apart from anything you can purchase. This enables me to pull it from under me by looping my wrists into them, even with slightly weakened hand function.

Six years on it continues to come with me everywhere I go, on adventures all around the country and beyond. I now solo travel with it frequently. I tuck it into a pouch on my chair and it helps me get into the driver’s seat of my van, onto hotel beds, friends couches, challenging toilets and everything in between.

It’s a small and simple thing, but it’s essential, and you were there to build it for me when no one else was.
