Maddi keeps moving

A smiling girl at the top of a set of wooden stepsMaddi has SPG15, a rare type of motor neurone disease that makes it difficult for her to move around. She was finding it increasingly difficult to manage the steep steps into the kitchen at home. As all parents of growing teenagers know, they need to be able to raid the fridge at regular intervals. Maddi’s mum got in touch with Remap and asked for our help.

There isn’t space in the doorway for a ramp to be fitted safely, but Maddi is still able to manage shallow steps. Together with Maddi and her occupational therapist, volunteers from our Essex North branch custom-made a set of special stairs which would fit in the available space.

Now Maddi can move around her home safely again – including to grab snacks when no one’s looking. You can read more about Maddi’s story at
