Reading stand for John
John is a delightful 20 month old little boy who has poor muscle strength, limited use of his hands and poor head control. His physiotherapist wanted him to spend some time sitting up and trying to use his arms, so Remap Berkshire volunteer Caryn adapted a commercial toy stand, adding a plywood book rest. Velcro straps allow the book rest to be adjusted to different heights and wire arms hold the book pages open. This has enabled John to spend some time sitting up.
Johns mother Katherine writes: “Thank you so much for creating John’s wonderful bookstand, it is absolutely perfect for helping to encourage him to reach out and also entertaining him when he is in his standing frame. We appreciate all your help, Remap is a truly wonderful organisation.”
