STEM students in Remap Dragons Den!

Remap volunteers formed a special dragons den for school students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in Bolton on 17th March.

More than 150 students from years 7, 8 and 9 at Sharples School in Bolton took part in the special STEM Super-Learning day and in small teams were presented with various challenges that disabled people face. Their job was to design a device to solve the problem and then “sell” the product to the Remap dragons (three members of Remap Bolton, Bury and Rochdale).

The design problems included a device to enable a person who had only one hand to carry out a particular task; a device to enable a person with severe arthritis to write; and equipment to enable a person using crutches to carry something.

The winning team (pictured) produced a design for a wheelchair which included a rising seat and featured a breast feeding attachment. The Remap dragons were impressed with the enthusiasm of the students and the originality of some of the designs.
