Music holder

The client is a keen member of his local choir however, following a brain tumour, he needs to use a stick to balance when standing, which means he cannot hold his sheet music and turn the pages single handedly. The music needs to be at chest height so he does not have to look down too far while singing. The tablet music holder allows him to have his music held hands-free, at the right height and angle to use it when singing. He says that, without this device, he was very seriously considering having to give up his favourite hobby.

The Challenge

The initial prototype supported a classic music stand on a tray similar to that used by an ice-cream seller in the theatre! After discussion and working together we then designed a body-worn holder for an iPad style tablet which he will use in preference to using sheet music. He sourced a webbing harness to take some of the load and I fabricated a holder from painted MDF and wood which is supported on the harness and an additional webbing belt strap. The tablet is held in U-section PVC trim made from two lengths of right angle trim, all secured with double sided tape.

The benefit

The client was absolutely delighted. He says that he can now continue his favourite hobby; he was devastated at the thought of having to give it up.

This is exactly the sort of music holder my partner would like, BUT his problem is that he cannot hold the sheet music up for any time because of stress on his shoulders and upper arms. So if something could be devised to take all the weight of just sheet music rather than an IPad from the waist rather from the shoulders he could sing! And the choir would have a good tenor voice.
A reply would be very much appreciated.
    Kind regards
