Patio Door Handle Extension

The client has arthritis and was finding it hard to open and close the patio doors, to allow her dogs into the garden.
The Challenge
The client needed to open and close the patio door to allow her pets to roam in the garden.
The client found the door handles very hard to operate as her arthritis progresses.
Due to the age of the door, no direct replacement larger handles were available.
The ends of the bar were rounded off to prevent sharp edges.
The solution
The scrap shower chair leg was cut off and a small rounded-off piece of broom handle glued into the end. The tube was sprayed with white gloss paint, filled with multi-purpose glue and placed over the handle.
I did consider holding the tube in place with a screw, but I did not want to compromise the original handle strength as a longer handle could apply more force to the original door handle.
The benefit
The client can now open and close two patio doors with ease, allowing her pets to roam in the garden.
The client was very pleased with the finished handle, and happy to be able to ensure the security of the doors.
