Bowling green access support

A removable handrail to help a client to get onto the green of her local bowling club, following a stroke.

The Challenge

Our client has had a stroke but was still mobile with the use of a quad stick.  Her OT asked REMAP if we could provide a solution that provided some extra stability for her to step onto the green.  Whilst some sort of commercial wheelchair type ramp could have been used to bridge the drainage channel, one of that small size would not come with any integral support rail, and would be larger than required for storage purposes.

The solution

Harrogate and Ripon Group engineer Roger Naylor worked with the bowling club to come up with a bespoke removable handrail that clamps onto the existing rails in front of the club house, and also bridges the drainage channel around the green – providing the necessary securing point for the other end of the rail without damaging the green. The solution is compact and can be folded and stored when not required.

The benefit

The solution provides the extra support needed for our client.
