Duvet lifter
The client uses a self hoist to move from her bed into a wheelchair. She finds it very hard/impossible to remove her duvet to do this so REMAP was engaged to find a solution. It was a difficult solution to design due to the hoist and other equipment being above the bed. The only space for a device was at the end of the bed. A solution was designed and made which fitted into the bottom of the bed frame that uses a mechanical arm to lift the duvet using a remote controller. This worked perfectly and the OT and client were delighted with the solution.
The Challenge
The client wanted to use a hoist lift and could not move her duvet out of the way.
The client is a wheelchair user with very limited mobility.
There was nothing commercially available to do this.
We needed to ensure any device did not get tangled up with other equipment and could be operated safely.
The solution
A mechanical device that uses a telescopic linear actuator to lift an arm that is connected to the duvet.
Is uses a 12V DC power supply controlled by a handheld operating unit.
The benefit
This solution enable the client to use the bed hoist to move into her wheelchair and help maintain her independance.
