Due to motor neurone disease related breathing difficulties, our client required a means of wearing his glasses with his mask.

The solution

Working with a local opticians we became aware of sports inserts, these are plastic lens holders that can fit inside other eye wear such as ski masks or full face masks.

Using a small hole in the bridge of the mask the insert was attached, this was then sealed with an apoxy to maintain the masks seal.

We had initially tired to allow the client to wear his vari-focals, due to their sensitivity to angle and distance from the eyes this wasn’t practical, instead we chose to use two sets of fixed distance lenses, one for close up use and one of watching TV.

The benefit

Client could read and use his ipad or watch TV while wearing his mask.

A later addition was to allow a magnifying lens to be flipped up and down to prevent having to swap masks.
