Frame to hold one knitting needle in place to allow one handed knitting
The client only has the use of one arm and would like a solution to allow her to knit – this essentially requires a way to hold a knitting needle stationary and a way to hold the initial end of wool.
The Challenge
The client has only one hand and would like to continue her hobby of knitting. This can be achieved if one needle can easily be held static while the other needle and wool is manipulated around it. The static needle should be able to be easily removed and put back in place or replaced with an empty needle.

The solution
A lightweight frame has been constructed from aluminium tubing and hard plastic as shown in the photos. The stabilises the frame by sitting with one leg on the oval plastic base. The static needle is inserted into to clasp horizontally as shown, and held firmly in place. All edges have been made smooth, and plastic end stops have been added to the aluminium tubing – since the end stops have a small central hole this also allows a ‘free’ needle to be kept vertically at the client’s left side.

The benefit
The solution allows the client to continue knitting, and is lightweight and reasonably compact to allow it to be stored away easily when not in use.
