Ideas needed for reminder to turn off taps

An old lady has hearing difficulties and a bad memory. When she turns on a hot water tap to fill e.g. a bowl of water (via a combi boiler), she cannot hear the sound of running water and often forgets to turn off the tap. Any ideas? Other than a timed tap (usually too short a time – just enough to wash your hands), I’m at a loss other than for some sophisticated, expensive device that can detect hot water flow and shut it off when it has been on for a predetermined time. This would have to be able to differentiate between demands – e.g. filling a bath or running a shower would need a longer time than filling a bowl. I guess we could rig up a microphone to detect the noise and link to a timer but this would be specific to one tap. I can’t see anything appropriate on the internet. Any ideas please anyone?
